This District Jail was constructed during the Nizam period in the year 1916 as Sub Jail.  Previously the District Head Quarters was situated at Asifabad.  Later it was shifted to Adilabad which is 120 kms away from Asifabad.  This jail was closed during the year 1951 after jail break.  The prison was re-opened as a District Jail after (40) years during the year 1991 i.e., on 15.03.1991.  Three (03) new barracks were constructed during the year 2001 for additional accommodation of the prisoners.  The present authorize accommodation is 223 prisoners including female Barrack.
