Central Prison, Chanchalguda, Hyderabad is one of the oldest jails in the country constructed by the erstwhile Nizam ruler by name Nizam –Ul – Mulk of Hyderabad State in the year1876. The convicted Prisoners upto 2 years of sentence are confined in this jail. After formation of Andhra Pradesh State, Sri Guru Pratap was the First Superintendent of this Prison. Central Prison Hyderabad is the first Prison in the country to have study centre of the A.P. open University. During 1989-1980 Central Prison Hyderabad achieved 100% literacy rate with the introduction of adult education programme. A Petrol station also maintained by this Prison, which is the highest profit making petrol pump in Hyderabad.
