The old District Jail locally called as Khilla Jail was a Fort located on a Hillock of about 300 feet height. It was a part of Sri Raghunath Mandir which was constructed during the period of Chatrapathi Shivaji, in time the Temple chowltrees were converted into Jail for confining political activities who were acting against the Nizam’s regime. It was upgraded as Central Prison for a short period in 1969 and it was again downgraded as District Jail.
New District Jail is constructed at a total cost of Rs. 10 crores. The newly constructed Jail at nizamabad was inaugurated on 28-07-2007. A modern prison hospital was constructed in this Jail with capacity of 20 Beds for sick Prisoners. This District Jail was provided included security blocks for high risk Prisoners.
