The Telangana State Prisons Department is functioning under the control of Home Department. The Director General and Correctional Services is the Head of the Department. He is assisted by 1 Inspector General of Prisons at Headquarters and 2 Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons at Range Level. The various institutions under the control of the Prisons Department are classified into Central Prisons, District Jails, Open Prisons, Special Prison for Women and Sub Jails. They are headed by officers of different ranks.
