The Department is divided into two Ranges i.e Hyderabad Range and Warangal Ranges, each headed by Deputy Inspector General of Prisons. The headquarters of the two regions are located at Hyderabad and Warangal respectively.

The Hyderabad Range consists of (3) districts with largest number of institutions. About 50% of prison population usually been confined in the jails located in this region, while the Warangal Region have jurisdiction of 4 Districts as shown in below ::
